Italy: The app Where Are U wins the “Smart Communities Award” at SMAU 2015

The Regional Emergency Service Company (AREU) with its App “Where are U” was awarded as a finalist at the Smart Communities Award – Smart Communities and Social Innovation as an engine for Regional Development. The ceremony was held in Milan on October 22nd during the SMAU International 2015, the most important Italian event dedicated to Information & Communication Technologies designed to help main national and international suppliers of ICT to meet entrepreneurs, corporate and public administration decision makers and ICT operators. During the SMAU, 12 projects out of 43 were awarded as the best Smart Development projects.

The app Where Are u, developed by AREU in partnership with Beta 80 Group, allows placing an emergency call, along with the transmission of the correct position of the caller (latitude, longitude, altitude, date, time and address), and it’s directly connected to the 112 emergency centers in Lombardia Region.

Thanks to the new function called “Silent Call”, when the caller is in a situation of danger and is unable to talk with the operator, PSAPs will have its precise positioning in real time to dispatch resources anyway. Moreover, it allows you to preset a friend’s phone number and has a “witness” function to let PSAPs know when the caller is not directly involved in the accident.
